Heraldry and the law: XXIInd colloquium of the International academy of heraldry : held in Lund 16-19 August 2023
Synopsis
Heraldry and the law have close connections. Heraldry has been discussed in legal terms from the 14th century onwards. State, municipal and, in some places, family heraldry is regulated through law. Some states have had, and some have still, heraldic offices. Symbols of law occur in heraldic arms. Heraldry can be discussed in terms of intangible cultural heritage. Heraldic norms are similar to, and interact with, legal norms.
This type of questions was discussed at the XXIInd Colloquium of the Académie Internationale d’Héraldique (the International Academy of Heraldry) in Lund in August 2023. The papers from the colloquium have been collected in this volume.
